The deep is an installation about the layers of our past and obviously the title has a double meaning. Living on the Sussex coast with connections to the fishing community I am interested in the strong historical link. The work is a recognition of the endurance and persistence of the sea.The waves were rolling up the beaches before we were born and will continue to do so long after we have gone. We will bear witness to its power and beauty for the transient time we are here.

Within the tower are placed cuttlefish bones that have been carved with fish skeletons then inked and bleached. These symbolise the remains of our ancestors.
