My Work is often concerned with the traces of people left behind after death. We carry the memories, influences and genetic make-up of our forefathers. we are custodians of their artifects in the form of letters, documents, photographs and objects and objects brought or made by them. We, too, will leave similar traces behind for our descendants.

In this piece I am honouring my ancestors by creating a family ‘seat’. It contains many such traces embedded in the walls and as shadows from within. It is in the form of a primitive hut to suggest the ancient ground breakers and house builders of distant ancestors.

It is surrounded by sand so that in visiting poeple will leave behind traces themselves. Visitors are also invited to chalk the names of their ancestors on the walls to honour them or to leave them messages.
